Instead, think of it as the “in your face” version, because this is where the two models really differ. But it’s crucial not to think of this as the “big” Connected Calibre E4. I like the solidity of the Connected Calibre E4 45mm, it’s an obviously luxurious product, and I think it looks superb, even if it is pretty big. The crown is covered in rubber to make it easier to rotate and scroll through the menus, plus the pushers have a dampened motion, so they feel less like buttons. You can get the 45mm smartwatch with a metal bracelet if the rubber version doesn’t feel upmarket enough, but I’d give this one a try before you make that decision. It’s also simple and fast to adjust at any time, making it very easy to live with. The perforated rubber strap with Tag Heuer’s fantastic folding clasp is very comfortable, more so than the full rubber version that was fitted to the 42mm Connected Calibre E4 that I previously wore. However, Tag Heuer doesn’t really push sleep tracking as a key feature. It’s 115 grams, so more than twice that of an Apple Watch Series 8 with a Braided Solo Loop strap, and that makes it uncomfortable to wear overnight. It’s actually the weight that’s more noticeable. Is it too big? It’s on my 6.5-inch wrist in the photos, and I don’t think it looks ridiculous, but there’s no doubt it’s a big smartwatch. The polished bezel glints in the sun, and the screen is set right up against the sapphire crystal for a very watch-like look. The finish on the stainless steel puts the very ordinary-looking titanium on the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Pro to shame, as it combines both a sand-blasted-like texture with highly polished sections for real visual appeal. It looks and feels like a luxury product should. The 45mm case of the Tag Heuer Connected Calibre E4 is made from stainless steel, and so is the folding clasp, while the bezel is ceramic. The new software has transformed the experience. Review update July 2023: The 45mm Tag Heuer Connected Calibre E4’s review score was bumped up to an 8/10 and received a Recommended Product Award after we revisited a version of the smartwatch with Google’s Wear OS 3 installed. It turns out that thinking only about size is the wrong way to approach these two smartwatches, and will not help you make a decision about which one to buy. Older models will have a solid rotor, while the newer versions have two triangle shapes cut out at the bottom. The Calibre 5 has been in production for quite some time and has undergone some updates in terms of style. Virtual Railfan launched its website in 2014 with 4 locations, and railfans quickly signed up for membership as the network continued to grow. When it became technically feasible to live stream directly to YouTube in 2017, the company put a handful of locations on the popular platform and viewership exploded. Virtual Railfan has 210,000 YouTube subscribers from across the globe who’ve watched nearly 35 million hours of feed. “Although the viewers tune in to watch trains, the live chat which accompanies each feed, provides a unique opportunity for people to converse about the area It’s history and events while they wait for the next train,” said Mike Cyr, the President and CEO of Virtual Railfan. He noted the chats are a big part of the connection for the viewers. The conversations are family-friendly, they inform and engage the viewers about each location, and encourage the local railfans to become “virtual ambassadors” in the chat. “We can spread the word of the Inn, Fort Madison, and everything they offer visitors, with much greater reach than conventional advertising,” siad Cyr. “Instead of chasing potential tourists, you have an audience of millions who flock to you. Did you know you can watch the train drive past Revelstoke’s Railway Museum? Live? The Fort Madison live stream can be found on YouTube:, or on the Virtual Railfan website. Last fall Virtual Railfan approached Laura Young, executive director at the museum, about installing a live camera facing the railway on the outside of their building. “We thought, ‘what a wonderful marketing opportunity for us and what a great way to also showcase Revelstoke to a bunch of people who didn’t know about us’,” Young said. Though Virtual Railfan operates on subscriptions, the live feed can also be accessed on Youtube and through the Railway Museum’s webpage. “It’s been really well received,” Young said. The last report she saw from Railfan said the feed was watched something ridiculous like 400,000 times in the first 25 days from 136 different countries, “or something like that”. “I was speaking to a gentleman this morning, he’s a friend of the museum and he lives down in Texas, and he was like ‘oh ya I watch 15-20 minutes every morning, check out what is going on’,” she said. In 2008, Billabong continued with the consistent acquisition activity that occurred in 2007 and announced four acquisitions over four successive months. The Tigerlily decision represented the first time that Billabong had acquired a brand focused exclusively on the 'girls' market, and the management intended to position the new addition so that it complimented the company's own 'Billabongs Girls' line. The acquisition of wetsuit and technical watersport accessories brand Xcel became effective on 1 September 2007, and Jodhi Meares's former Tigerlily brand was acquired in December of the same year. The following year in December, an official press release was published to announce the acquisition of Nixon Inc., a watch and accessories brand in the board-sports market. The acquisition of the Kustom surf shoe brand, as part of Billabong's purchase of the Australian Gold Coast-based Palmers Surf company, was disclosed in September 2004. A shop in Glasshoughton, West Yorkshire, England Von Zipper, an eyewear brand, was acquired in early 2001 and the acquisition of skateboarding apparel and hard-good brand Element was announced in July 2001. Acquisitions Īs the company developed further, it acquired new brands and retail outlets to move beyond the wholesale business, and the first decade of the 21st century was a particularly active period of expansion for Billabong. The company was first traded on the Australian Securities Exchange 2000, which provided the company with the funds to further expand and acquire other companies. In the 1990s, the surf industry as a whole grew significantly, and Billabong was a part of this growth process. īased upon his success in Australia, Merchant decided to export Billabong's products, and by the late 1980s, Merchant's board shorts were available in other countries, including New Zealand, Japan, and South Africa. By the 1980s, Billabong board shorts were present throughout Australia. Merchant understood that his company needed to expand to achieve success, so Billabong started to sponsor contests, which increased the public's awareness of Merchant's products, and the company expanded. Surfers soon realized the durability of Merchant's shorts that was the result of his triple-stitching technique. At first, he designed and created board shorts at his home, and then sold them to local surf shops. History Early history īillabong was founded in the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, in 1973 by Gordon Merchant. In December 2016, former chief executive Matthew Perrin was found guilty of fraud and forgery by a jury in the district court in Brisbane, and was sentenced to jail in January 2017. During one period, Billabong used a corporate turnaround strategy to return the company to profitability, which it achieved in 2014. In 2018, Billabong International Limited was acquired by Boardriders, Inc, owner of rival brand Quiksilver.įrom late 2012 onwards, following the company's decline in the period since 2008, Billabong International has been the subject of several protracted bidding and takeover processes in which the company's former United States chief Paul Naude has been a participant. Honolua Surf Company, Kustom, Palmers Surf, Xcel, Tigerlily, Sector 9, and RVCA were the company's other brands. As of September 2013, Von Zipper, and Element were two of the prominent brands that Billabong owns. The name " billabong" is derived from the Wiradjuri word bilabaŋ that refers to a "creek that runs only during the rainy season". Founded in 1973 by Gordon and Rena Merchant, the company first traded on the Australian Securities Exchange in August 2000. Billabong International Limited is an Australian company focused on surfing, primarily a clothing retailer that also produces accessories, such as watches and backpacks, and skateboard and snowboard products under other brand names. We can also use hacer to indicate that an action started in the past but it is still taking place today. Hace unos días (que) nuestros vecinos volvieron de sus vacaciones (It has been a few days since our neighbors came back from their vacation.) Hace with Actions That Started in the Past and Continue Today Hace seis meses (que) mi hermana se casó (It has been six months since my sister got married.) Hace cinco años (que) compré mi primer coche (It has been five years since I bought my first car.) Just this one time, I am going to use the same examples and in the previous section so you can clearly see the changes that need to be made: You can translate this into English as “it has been some time since someone did something.” As you can see, the order of the words is different and we have added an optional que to the construction, but the intrinsic meaning and the use are the same. The exact same can be said about this second construction. Nuestros vecinos volvieron de sus vacaciones hace unos días. (Our neighbors came back from their vacation a few days ago.) hace + time expression + ( que) + past tense action Mi hermana se casó hace seis meses. (My sister got married six months ago.) Use this construction to say that someone did something some time ago:Ĭompré mi primer coche hace cinco años. (I bought my first car five years ago.) In order to do that, we have two different constructions: past tense action + hace + time expression The first main use of the verb hacer with time expressions is to indicate the time that has passed since an action took place. Hace with Actions That Took Place Some Time Ago Leo en inglés desde hace 15 años. (I have been reading in English for 15 years.)Įach of these purposes have different constructions, so let’s see them one by one. Literally: “It does/makes a month that I do not see him.”) Hace un mes que no lo veo. (It has been a month since I last saw him. Lo compré hace tres meses. (I bought it three months ago.) Here are three examples in the hopes that they will whet your appetite for more: I will give you plenty of examples in the following sections, so that by the end of the post you will know how to translate any hacer time expression correctly. Overall, though, there are three main ways of translating hacer when using these kinds of expressions: “ago,” “since” and “for.” Its translation will vary, as you will see in the rest of the post, depending on the construction of the sentence. Hacer is one of the most important Spanish verbs when it comes to time expressions. Time to learn! Hacer Time Expressions to “Make” Time Clear as Day You might notice that hizo substitutes the c for a z-this is solely a written change, done to keep the soft s sound intact.Īnd now that you remember all the relevant conjugations of hacer, let’s move on to time expressions that use it. Vosotros/as hicisteis (you did, you made) Él/ella hizo (he/she/it did, he/she/it made) The preterite is indeed irregular, but the irregularity repeats itself in all the conjugations, making it very easy to learn, too: *Remember that many times we can translate the Spanish imperfect as “used to,” “would,” a past continuous tense and even a past perfect tense. Él/ella hacía (he/she/it did, he/she/it made) When it comes to the imperfect, hacer is not one of the only three irregular verbs that exist in the Spanish imperfect tense. Él/ella hace (he/she/it does, he/she/it makes) However, it is a fairly easy verb to learn if we take into account that the rest of the present tense persons are regular: Hacer is considered an irregular verb in the present tense because of its first person singular. This blog post is available as a convenient and portable PDF that youĬlick here to get a copy. In order to make it much more manageable, this time I will only focus on hacer time expressions, and we will leave the rest for another day.īut before we delve into the crazy world of hacer time expressions, let me quickly remind you the conjugations of the three tenses we are going to be using: the present, the imperfect and the preterite. Trying to cover the vast amount of information there is about it would take us around 25 long posts, if not more. In case you have not guessed it yet, today’s post is all about the Spanish verb hacer. Moreover, the present tense third person singular hace (he/she/it does, he/she/it makes, it is ) is the 84th most commonly used word in the Spanish language! Now, that is an important verb form! The “Diccionario de la Real Academia Española”(“Spanish Royal Academy Dictionary”) lists 58 different meanings and uses of the word, and over 43 verbal phrases that use hacer! It seems we really love this cute, little verb. SpanishDict includes over 30 different meanings for this verb, which may tell you about its importance for Spanish speakers. Most of the time, the Spanish verb hacer means “to do” or “to make.” AugTime Flies: Hacer Time Expressions to “Make” Time Clear as Day The one that impressed us most was the Vintage - although it offers only Attack, Release, Input and Output controls, this simplicity is what we found so appealing. The Compressor section provides Tube, Vintage, and Standard models, each with its own collection of controls. Then there's an Envelope Shaper with - as you'd expect - Attack and Release knobs, along with Length and Output controls. There's also a Saturation section, offering Tube and Tape modes, both of which give you control over drive, output and low- / high-pass filtering. The Noise Gate comes first, with its Threshold, Attack, Release, Freq and Q controls - just enough to do the job in a hurry. You can arrange them in any order you like some offer variations on a theme, while others do one job. In fact, we prefer accessing it this way as it gives a better overview than the narrow vertical display in the MixConsole, enabling you to see all its five sections at once without scrolling. The new Channel Strip isn't just an element of the MixConsole but is also available when viewing the Channel Settings window. Old tools like in-line EQ curves and large meters are still available. You can show (and grow) only the fader sections, for instance, or toggle a notepad for each channel, channel overview and more. The Visibility/Zones column enables you to decide not just which channels you want to see but in what order they should be arranged. The new MixConsole is entirely configurable and can be expanded to fill your entire screen. However, for the most part, the size of all of these elements wasn't adjustable. You could collapse the bits you didn't want to see, toggle showing inserts, EQs, sends, etc, and you could have three different mixers available at any time. However, we've been spending a lot of time with it and can assure you that the new features are nothing short of inspirational. If you're in the latter camp, you may be taken aback by some of the sweeping changes that have come to Cubase in this new version. Some might say that Cubase has been looking slightly stodgy in comparison others might champion its familiarity. Elsewhere, you have newcomers like PreSonus Studio One and even the upcoming Bitwig Studio that are not tied down to years of established convention. Steinberg's updates have, of late, been designed to open users' wallets with the promise of creative inspiration, while rarely delivering the sort of sweeping changes that would rattle them or have them scrambling to the user manual.īut times have changed in the DAW scene, with some competitors offering quite radical updates - see Propellerhead's introduction of full audio editing/recording and plugin Rack Extensions to Reason, or Cakewalk's deep rework of Sonar as Sonar X1. The only indications of the actual Cubase version you’re using will be the startup splash screen (it will only show the name of the activated product), and the Help > About entry once the program’s loaded."Times have changed in the DAW scene, with some competitors offering quite radical updates" The weirdest thing about the combined installer is that it places an icon on your desktop named “Cubase LE AI Elements 7”. So, AI has more plugins than LE does, and Elements has more plugins, more features, and fewer restrictions than both of them. And Elements includes some plugins that neither AI or LE have. The main difference between AI and LE appears to be that AI includes several plugins that LE does not. In terms of core functionality of the DAW environment, Cubase AI and LE appear to be the same (and both are more limited than Elements in this regard). I’ve never owned Cubase Artist, but my impression is that Artist and Full Cubase do have separate installers (their download sizes are different on the Steinberg download page), however there is indeed only a single installer for the three products Elements, AI, and LE, and it’s your activation key that determines which product you get to use. The order of Cubase versions, in terms of completeness/functionality is: But to summarize and clarify what’s already mostly been said: This whole situation is very confusing, and Steinberg could do a lot by cleaning up the website and updating the product comparisons to reflect the current product line. The Scaffold is a widget in Flutter used to implements the basic material design visual layout structure. A key that is unique across the entire app. final GlobalKey < ScaffoldState > scaffoldKey GlobalKey < ScaffoldState >() Scaffold (key: scaffoldKey, body. This was previously used to manage SnackBars. Then, in your widget, have a constructor that takes in a key and pass it to the parent class: Foo(key) : super(key: key) If for instance you only have a MaterialApp with a single. So, if you want the same widget, appearing on very different screens (that hopefully are far from each other), you can use a GlobalKey to do that, with basically 3 lines of code.įirst, declare a variable that you can access from both screens: final _key = GlobalKey() Scaffold.of (context).showBottomSheet (builder) This means that youâll have to be under a scaffold widget to be able to show it.So for this demo, I inserted a "blank page" to prevent that when swiping. For example, when swiping to another screen, there is usually a transition animation where both screens are rendered at the same time. If you can guarantee that, the two widgets will never be on the screen at the same time, or more precisely, they will never be simultaneously inserted into the widget tree on the same frame, then you could try to use GlobalKey to have the same widget on different parts of the layout. In this video, we will discover Scaffold Widgets main functionalities and why we need to implement this. Retrieve a ScaffoldState from the current BuildContext using Scaffold.of. Saed's answer (which I rewarded 50 bounty points) might be how it was done in the video, but it no longer works in recent Flutter versions. Things have changed since that video was released. For more complex data, you should look into Provider, InheritedWidget or alike. It is typically not necessary to nest Scaffolds. If a scaffoldMessengerKey is specified, the ScaffoldMessenger can be directly manipulated without first obtaining it from a BuildContext via ScaffoldMessenger.of: from the scaffoldMessengerKey, use the GlobalKey.currentState getter. This means that adding a Scaffold to each route on a Material app will provide the app with Material's basic visual layout structure. A key to use when building the ScaffoldMessenger. For example, if you want a Switch and a Slider like in the demo, you are better off just pass the actual boolean and double behind those two widgets. The Scaffold is designed to be a top level container for a MaterialApp. By calling Scaffold.of (context).showSnackBar, the current Scaffold would animate a SnackBar into view. You should pass the data around, not the widget, not the widget state. I would not recommend using GlobalKey for this task. |
